Books and Borrowing
We have over 20,000 books in print and access to hundreds of eBooks in our collection. Our subject coverage is vast and covers disciplines from anatomy to x-ray. In addition to the many medical and nursing textbooks we hold, we also have other related academic books and study guides, books on coaching and mentoring, management and leadership, statistics and research, too many to mention!
We also hold a large fiction collection, that covers various genres and a leisure collection that covers topics ranging from cookery to camping, and we have specialist collections such as our Neurodiversity Colllection and Sustainability Collection, each with dedicated webpages: Neurodiversity Collection | UHDB library Sustainability | UHDB library
Have a look at our library catalogue for details, see the link below.
Loan periods
The bulk of our collection are standard loan books. Standard loan books have an 8 week loan period for staff and students. The Burton site also has a Health and Wellbeing and a leisure collection. Derby also have DVDs and CDs (as part of the Dementia Collection), and the Health and Wellbeing books are integrated within the main library stock.

Journals
We provide access to over 3000 eJournal titles. A list of available titles can be accessed via BrowZine and if you have the DOI of a specific article, you can search for access using Libkey. Access to e-Journals requires an NHS OpenAthens login. See our Help with Resources section for details on how to use these platforms.
If you would like an article from a journal that we don't have access to, then we might be able to find a copy for you using our inter library loan system. This service is only available to staff members, student members are encouraged to use the provision of their own institution.

Distraction Collection
These resources have been carefully selected to encourage staff and carers to actively engage with patients and relatives, distract patients with themed boxes, trigger memories and encourage reminiscence in patients with Dementia.
As well as information on Autism, Dementia and Alzheimer's, we also stock picture books, games, CDs, interactive pet models and memory boxes, to help with reminiscence and communication.

Laptops
In addition to our reading materials and distraction resources, we also have electronic equipment that can be borrowed.
We have laptops that can be issued to your library account via our Lapsafe lockers. These are located towards the rear of the Derby library site, and near the self -issue area at Burton.
Lapsafe laptops are available for both staff and students, and can be used within the library at one of our docking stations or taken to your office/ study area or home. Laptops are issued for a maximum of 7 days.
On returning the laptops to the lockers, please leave switched on to allow for updates. Also please check that the chargers and bags that are available are also returned.
We also have a projector that can be borrowed and used within our seminar rooms. Please ask at the library counter at Derby if you wish to use this.
